OKLAHOMA CITY/EDMOND OKLAHOMA CHILD AND FAMILY DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHER

"This is what we do on Sundays."

When I heard my brother-in-law say that and my nieces yell "yeah!", I ran for my camera.

To you, these are nothing more than a handful of cute images. But to my sister and her family, it's so much more.

It's a short story of her miracle daughters, still looking so sweet and young even at 7. It's the serene snapshots that magically erase any frustrations that come with raising (and running) a family. It's Carlee, her girl who wears her heart on her sleeve but prefers no nightgown at night and Averee, her funny fireball who's her Daddy's duplicate. It's that damn St. Mark's sweatshirt that James wears every.single.day, familiar to any friend of his and the subject of so many jokes.

Most of my images get swiped away with nothing but a swift glance.

But when they're your people?

They'll stop you in your tracks. Over and over and over. Year after year after year.

Still too scared to stray from portraits? You won't be after reading this.
